Acrylic on Canvas
Medusa is painted onto a vessel that holds muted and dying flowers: permanence versus impermanence. Just as the vessel continues to exist even when the flowers cease to, the legend of Medusa far outlives her physical form. Pegasus, her kin, is illustrated next to her as the continuation of not only her blood, but her story. Fire illustrated beneath her hovering stance is a nod to the Salem Witch Trials and the often tragic fate of women who go against the grain.
