At one point, a woman reading was considered highly dangerous; in some parts of the world, it still is. Curiosity and knowledge in the hands of a woman could dismantle men’s suppression of their freedom and power. Medusa lounging on her couch with a book in hand conveys the idea that the snakes which lay upon her head will never be as dangerous as the pursuit of her freedom. The book in her hand is cheekily named,  “A Beginner’s Guide to Revenge”. The background in blue hues appears dark in contrast to the lightened elegance of her  playful green couch and checkerboard floor, as if to say, “take me into the light”.
